# Chat

> Ask Deal Brain about your pipeline from inside the web app — no setup, no separate AI tool.

Deal Brain has its own chat. It's the first item in the left sidebar of the web app, at `/app/dashboard/chat`.

Chat is the fastest way to ask a question about your pipeline. You don't need to connect an AI platform first, and you don't have to leave the place where your deals already live. The empty state sums up what it's for: **Ask about risk, timing, champions, or next steps.**

## Chat or your AI platform?

Both routes reach the same Deal Brain context — your deals, artifacts, observations, and action items.

* **Use chat** when you're already in the web app and want an answer next to the deals you're looking at. There's nothing to set up.
* **Use your AI platform over [MCP](/integrations/mcp)** when you'd rather bring that context into the tool you already work in, alongside everything else in that thread.

Pick whichever fits the moment. Neither is a strict superset of the other, so if you can't do something in one, try the other.

## Ask a question

Type into the composer at the bottom of the chat. The placeholder tells you the two ways in: **Ask about your deals, or type @ to reference one…**

```text wrap theme={null}
What's the biggest risk on my pipeline this quarter?
```

To point a question at a specific deal, type `@` and pick the deal from the list that appears. The rest of the question reads normally around it.

```text wrap theme={null}
For @Acme, what's blocking us and what should I do next?
```

```text wrap theme={null}
Who are the champions on @Jaffle Inc, and how strong is each one?
```

The prompts in the [Getting Started playbook](/using/getting-started) are a good starting point here too — they ask for the same deal context chat draws on. Swap the bracketed account names for an `@` reference.

## Composer controls

The composer has a few controls beyond the text field and the send button:

* **All Deals** — the scope selector. It sets how wide the question ranges. Leave it on **All Deals** to ask across your pipeline; narrow it when you want the answer confined to less than that. An `@` reference in the message itself is the other way to focus a question on one deal.
* **Balanced** — a second selector next to scope.
* **+** — a button on the left of the composer.
* **Microphone** — voice input. Speak the question instead of typing it.
